About the author
Liisa Stenberg is a Finnish author and designer who has lived in Japan during her study years and travels back to her “other home country” almost yearly. She has published two guide books about Japan and her first novel, Ainoat lapset, comes out in April 2026 by Finnish publisher Docendo.
Stenberg’s first book is a cultural guide about studying and living in Japan, written in Finnish (Vuosi Japanissa, published by Finn Lectura, 2011). Her newest travel guide book, ‘A Café Lover’s Tokyo – A traveller’s guide to the best cafés in Tokyo’ is an indie e-publication that was written and designed from the beginning for tablet or e-book reading devices, allowing easy access to the information during travelling.
Stenberg divides her time between writing and design work. She’s at the moment employed as a consultant, who helps her clients plan, design and develop meaningful and commercially viable digital services, apps and products. Her interest and work experience in both digital and printed publishing have also formed her as an author: for Stenberg the most fun part of novel writing is the planning phase, and with guide books is the joy of putting it all together by creating layouts, designing brand and crafting all the materials needed for her books. Stenberg loves working and spending freetime in café environment, so making a book about her favourite coffee shops in Tokyo or writing a novel in such an inspiring setting have been the most fun writing projects she has had.
